Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Shrimp and Broccoli Stir Fry in Garlic Sauce:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice, for serving
- Optional: sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the chicken or vegetable broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and cornstarch until the cornstarch is fully dissolved. Set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Stir Fry Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the minced garlic and sliced onion, and cook until fragrant and the onion becomes translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Broccoli and Bell Pepper: Add the broccoli florets and sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 5-6 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
- Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Give the prepared sauce a quick stir and pour it over the shrimp and vegetables. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
- Season and Serve: Taste and season with salt and pepper if needed. Serve the stir-fry over cooked rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
Tips:
- For added flavor, you can marinate the shrimp in a little bit of soy sauce, ginger, and garlic before cooking.
- If you prefer a spicier dish, add some red pepper flakes or a splash of sriracha to the sauce.
- You can also add other vegetables like snap peas, carrots, or mushrooms to the stir-fry.
