Ribeye Steak with French Onions and French Fries Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Ribeye Steak:
- 2 ribeye steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme (optional)
- 2 tablespoons butter
For the French Onions:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1/4 cup beef broth (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
For the French Fries:
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the French Onions:
- In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt.
- Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. If using, add the sugar halfway through to help with caramelization.
- If desired, deglaze the pan with beef broth and balsamic vinegar, cooking until the liquid is mostly evaporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
2. Cook the French Fries:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with salt immediately.
3. Cook the Ribeye Steaks:
- Pat the steaks dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over high heat.
- Add the steaks and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, add the minced garlic, fresh thyme, and butter to the pan. Baste the steaks with the melted butter and garlic.
- Remove the steaks from the pan and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
4. Assemble the Dish:
- Place the rested ribeye steaks on plates.
- Top with a generous amount of caramelized French onions.
- Serve with a side of hot, crispy French fries.
Tips:
- For the best results, let the ribeye steaks come to room temperature before cooking.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the steaks are cooked to your preferred doneness (125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium).
- Double-frying the French fries (frying them once at a lower temperature, then again at a higher temperature) can make them extra crispy.
Enjoy your delicious ribeye steak with French onions and French fries!
