Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Ground Beef and Gravy:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for cooking)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
- Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and add a pinch of salt.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
- Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
- Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning if needed.
2. Cook the Ground Beef:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat (if using).
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Make the Gravy:
- Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes to get rid of the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed.
4. Serve:
- Spoon a generous amount of mashed potatoes onto each plate.
- Top with the ground beef and gravy mixture.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Enjoy your comforting meal of ground beef and gravy over mashed potatoes!
