Crispy Fried Chicken Steak with Creamy Sauce
Ingredients
For the Chicken Steak:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Creamy Sauce:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Chicken Steak:
Pound the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts between two pieces of plastic wrap and pound them to an even thickness (about 1/2 inch) using a meat mallet.
Set Up Breading Station: Prepare three shallow dishes. In the first dish, mix the flour with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. In the second dish, whisk together the buttermilk and eggs. In the third dish, place the breadcrumbs.
Bread the Chicken: Dredge each chicken breast in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the buttermilk and egg mixture, then coat it with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
Fry the Chicken: Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken breasts and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Prepare the Creamy Sauce:
Make a Roux: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, until it turns a light golden color.
Add Liquids: Gradually whisk in the milk, heavy cream, and chicken broth. Continue to whisk until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken.
Season the Sauce: Add the garlic powder, onion powder, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
