Ingredients:
- For the beef and marinade:
- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- For the sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional, for color and deeper flavor)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
- For the stir-fry:
- 8 oz (225g) lo mein noodles or spaghetti
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, julienned
- 1 cup snap peas or snow peas
- 2 carrots, julienned
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 cup bean sprouts (optional)
Instructions:
- Marinate the beef:
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Add the sliced beef and mix well. Let it marinate for at least 20 minutes.
- Prepare the sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), brown sugar, sesame oil, and beef broth. Set aside.
- Cook the noodles:
- Cook the lo mein noodles or spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Stir-fry the beef:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until it is just cooked through, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-fry the vegetables:
- In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the red bell pepper, snap peas, carrots, mushrooms, and onion. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Combine everything:
- Return the cooked beef to the pan with the vegetables. Add the cooked noodles and the prepared sauce. Toss everything together until well combined and heated through.
- Add the chopped green onions and bean sprouts (if using), and toss again.
- Serve:
- Serve the Beef Lo Mein hot, garnished with additional green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
